Bulletproof coffee will kickstart your metabolism, and get your keto engine burning with a delicious combination of caffeine and good fats.
It’s designed to be compatible with the keto diet, Atkins, and several other low-carb diets, as it contains absolutely no carbohydrates!
What is Bulletproof Coffee?
Brew a strong cup of coffee, and then chuck it in the blender with some butter, coconut oil, or MCT. Blitz and enjoy!
While this concept may seem odd to those who haven’t tried it, this is an ideal recipe for those trying to stay in ketosis, and also get some easy calories in. The combination of caffeine and ketosis is purported to rapidly accelerate the fat loss process.
In this article, we’re going to share how to nail the bulletproof coffee using your home Nespresso machine.
Making Bulletproof coffee with Nespresso takes all the hassle out of your coffee prep – leaving you stimulated and satiated in no time at all!
Why Drink Bulletproof Coffee?
It tastes delicious.
We know it sounds a little weird, but once you get on it you won’t look back.
The coffee is creamy and low in carbohydrates. What’s more, the fats are the healthy kind – abundant in medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) in the form of MCT oil.
MCT oil boosts ketone production when you’re in ketosis so you’re basically making your energy system more efficient.
The Brain Octane MTC Oil which is purified makes it the best product to help your body reach ketosis. This is interesting food technology, as when going on a Keto diet plan, this will expedite initial weight loss.
The science behind MCT oil’s molecular structure says that it is four times more effective than plain coconut oil in raising ketone levels, giving you sustained energy that is not usually present in weight loss. As someone who has used the Keto plan in the past, lack of energy was one of my concerns
Caffeine. Caffeine raises your metabolism, meaning you’ll burn calories while standing still.
It also gives you mental sharpness and clarity. Combine this with the fact that on ketosis your brain operates more efficiently (your brain runs on ketones normally anyway) and we’re onto a winner.
Can You Make Bulletproof Coffee with Nespresso
Absolutely! Bulletproof coffee is typically made from ‘brewed’ coffee such as that made with a plunger. This means it’s strong, but it’s also quite voluminous as it’s made with a lot of water.
We can use Nespresso capsules here, but just need to watch out for a couple of things: we need to make a strong-tasting coffee, with plenty of caffeine and may need to top up with a little water to get the volume right.
The perks of doing this with Nespresso however, is that the coffee is always delicious, and takes literally seconds to make – with no mess or cleanup!
Using Nespresso OriginalLine Pods
Most Nespresso pods are designed to make an Espresso shot or 40ml of coffee. Lungo pods or a ‘long pour’ are designed for a little bit more at 110ml of final coffee.
Either way, you’re going to want to add a little extra hot water before blending your Bulletproof elixir.
- If using an Espresso or Ristretto pod, draw the coffee, then remove the pod and press the lungo button twice to get an extra 220ml of hot water out of your coffee machine – 250ml total.
- If using a Lungo pod, draw the coffee then remove the pod and press the lungo pod once to get an extra 110ml of hot water – 220ml total.
Using Nespresso VertuoLine Pods:
If you have a Vertuo machine, then you’re in the perfect position to make a delicious bulletproof blend.
Vertuo pods come in different sizes, prescribed to make 40ml, 80ml, 150ml, 230ml, or 440ml of coffee based on what ‘size’ capsule you purchase.
We recommended going for the 230ml ‘Coffee’ size or 440ml ‘Alto’ size as this way you get the right about of coffee right away. You also are guaranteed to get a nice strong brew.
What are the best pods to use for Bulletproof coffee?
In the OriginalLine range, we recommend the Nespresso Kazaar as this little capsule contains 142mg of caffeine. That’s twice that of the average Nespresso pod.
Another option would be to use any lungo pod, as these contain a little more coffee at 7grams per capsule, so they’ll make a stronger coffee.
Finally, you might want to try 2 capsules of your favorite flavor, such as the Nespresso Arpeggio (the world’s most popular Nespresso pod). Two Arpeggio pods will give you around 150mg of caffeine and a nice strong coffee.
What about Bulletproofs own brand of Nespresso compatible capsules?
Yes! If you’re already getting some ingredients from Bulletproof.com, then why not try a coffee designed for this very recipe? As a bonus, these compostable espresso pods are made from renewable plant-sourced bioplastics. The Original features distinct notes of cinnamon, plum, and orange with a cocoa hazelnut finish. They are also cheaper than the brand name Nespresso pods. Win-win!
We bought our Ghee and MCT Oil from Bulletproof.com (which we’ll be using in the recipes later on) and gave their coffee pods a try while we were there. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste, price, and love that they are compostable capsules!
Our top picks:
|Nespresso Kazaar||Big flavor and twice the caffeine of the average Nespresso pod. This is great value for money.|
|Nespresso Lungo||More coffee, more caffeine, and more taste. This pod is designed for large servings.|
|2x Nespresso Arpeggio||This is a great coffee, and by using two you get plenty of flavor and caffeine for your bulletproof blend.|
|Bulletproof Espresso Pods||Designed to be made into a Bulletproof coffee, and cheaper than your regular Nespresso pods.|
|VertuoLine Intenso||Bold, intense, and designed to make a large 230ml cup of delicious coffee.|

Making Your Bullet Proof Coffee with Nespresso
Making your Bulletproof coffee with Nespresso makes sense, as coffee is full of antioxidants, and the right coffee as a base gives you the lift you require. The reason for the grass-fed butter is, it makes the coffee more creamy and gives you the high-quality fat content that you will need on the Keto diet to kick start your weight loss program. If you enjoy a latte, make a latte instead.
The Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil is the best of all oils because it is totally pure, and when you are trying to reach ketosis, this will help. Don’t worry about the taste as it is flavorless and odorless. The MCT oil has been shown to double your available ketone energy regardless of the diet you are following.
