Our take on the Ristretto Decaffeinato?

You can easily open the box, which we love about this series of coffees. It is also easy to store. The coffee capsules are made of aluminum which ensures that your coffee retains its flavor and freshness. The aluminum capsules are also highly recyclable if you are looking for eco-friendly packaging. That is because aluminum is 100% recyclable. Each capsule produces 1.35oz of espresso and 3.70oz lungo.

Coffee Origins

Nespresso Colombia is made with late-harvest Arabica coffee beans from Colombia. The beans are organically grown, with careful attention to sustainability. Although people harvest their arabica coffee immediately when it ripens, when farmers wait for longer, you get a coffee with gently piercing acidity and winey fruity aroma. As you consider this coffee, remember that Colombia is a top global exporter of coffee and has been for the last 200 years.

Aroma

This coffee has a distinct winey aroma that you will love in the morning. It is essential to mention that although the aroma is unique, it is not overpowering, which is perfect in the kitchen in the morning.

Flavor

Taking your first sip of Nespresso Colombia is a revelation. We found that the flavors were supremely balanced so that the sharp acidity was not overpowering. The coffee has a winey aroma that makes you want more with every sip that you take. Each 5gm capsule contains medium roast ground coffee with an above-average intensity and is very smooth.

In this coffee, Nespresso went for balance above all else. It is excellent even for people who do not like fruit flavors. The combination of blackcurrant and red berries flavors makes this coffee fruity, but its acidity balances out the fruit flavors. You will notice a red wine aftertaste that we found amazing. This balance of flavors makes this coffee exotic and sophisticated

Intensity

Nespresso Colombia is of medium intensity, which means it is perfect for espresso drinkers and people trying it for the first time. It is smooth and rich, which means each capsule creates a very satisfying cup of espresso.

Pairings

The Nespresso Colombia coffee is perfect for breakfast, breaks and is an excellent choice if you are spending the afternoon with a few friends. It works perfectly with savory and sweet breakfast dishes, and you can even have it with dark chocolate.

Pros of the Colombia:

  • We love the balance in the flavors, which makes this coffee perfect for any occasion.
  • It has an excellent Colombian aroma, and every cup has a sophisticated and exotic taste.

Beverage Options

Colombia is designed to be extracted as a espresso or lungo which is a 30 – 60 second shot. It’s full body and intense flavor means this shot is absolutly packed with flavor. We recommend the Colombia is enjoyed in the following beverages:

The Green Pods Coffee Pod Beverage Options 1

Flat White

Extract an espresso shot from your Colombia capsule. Froth a half cup of milk but stop early to minimise the amount of milk foam. Swirl to texture then pour slowly into the espresso. Bonus: learn to make some latte art for your Nespresso here

Machiato

Extract an espresso shot from your Colombia capsule. Froth a small amount of milk and pour very slowly against the rim of the cup. Finish by spooning a small amount of froth to the centre of the espresso to ‘mark’ the crema.

Lungo Americano

With an Americano the water comes first. With no capsule in the machine, run the Lungo button twice to get 220ml of hot water in your cup (a 2:1 ratio). Then pop in the capsule and extract your Lungo on top of the hot water.

A simple Espresso

Enjoy the full flavor of the coffee by drinking it neat. Simply extract your espresso shot and sip at your leisure.

Food Pairings

We’d reccommend something sweet to balance out the bitterness and bold flavours of Ristretto Decaffeinato. This is a great morning tea coffee, so grab a bikkie or pastry and enjoy.

SUSTAINABILITY

Are they recyclable?

Yes! All Nespresso pods are recyclable through the Nespresso recycling program.

What are the capsules made from?

Nespresso pods are made a specific aluminium alloy known as 8081. They are then coated with a thin film of plastic and an epoxy varnish to stop the metal from oxidising.

Recycling Nespresso pods

We’re actually quite impressed by the lengths Nespresso has gone to implement its recycling program on a global scale. In most countries, Nespresso offers dedicated recycling bags, which you can return full of your used pods to drop-off points at Nespresso stores, post shops, supermarkets, and even florists.

To date, Nespresso has become one of few brands to demonstrate its commitment to environmental concerns. While most major manufacturers continue to produce disposable plastic coffee capsules, the latest Nespresso capsules are made from 100% recyclable metal.

Accessing Nespresso’s recycling locations worldwide

Nespresso has put in place a recycling programme for its aluminium Nespresso and Vertuoline capsules in 44 countries.

Out of these 44 countries enrolled in the program, consumers can dispose of the capsules in their recycling bins in 6 of them. In 15 countries they can ship them off back to Nespresso through the postal system for free. For the 23 other countries, there are 122,287 collection points worldwide where you can drop off the used capsules.
