Our take on the Ristretto Decaffeinato?

The Ethiopian Nespresso capsules are orange in color, and there are 10 in each box. The box is easy to open, which is good. You can close it after use and store it in your cabinets easily. Each container of 10 capsules costs $4.10 and makes 1.35oz of espresso and 3.70 oz of lungo. The company uses aluminum packaging because it is highly recyclable, meaning it is good for the environment.

If you are looking for coffee that brings excellent flavors into your home, then the Ethiopian Nespresso is a great choice. The Ethiopian Nespresso comes in a black box with orange detailing that gives it a touch of luxury, class, and sophistication. The packaging also features some beautiful graphics of workers on the coffee farms.

Coffee Origins

The coffee used in the Ethiopian Nespresso is sourced in the East African country of Ethiopia. Farmers in Ethiopia use traditional growing methods and sundry the Arabica coffee beans. Farmers use hand-turning to ensure that the coffee dries evenly, which gives it its natural flavor. An interesting fact to remember as you consider this coffee is that Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee.

Aroma

Nespresso Ethiopia has an orange blossom aroma coupled with jammy notes. These combined beautifully with its flavors to make a perfect cup of coffee.

Flavor

This coffee will probably stand out for you as it stood out for us. The capsule contains 5 grams of ground roast coffee and offers a light roast to which we attribute its soft body and light intensity. It has an aromatic profile that is both exotic and familiar. The coffee has a citrusy flavor and light wine notes.

Due to the traditional production methods, this coffee combines both light fruity notes with the more exotic notes of Ethiopian coffee. It is essential to mention the citrusy taste stays with you making it very memorable. That does not mean that it has an unpleasant aftertaste, though.

Intensity

The coffee has a light intensity which makes it a perfect cup for most people. In this coffee, Nespresso was looking to create a coffee that would be a crowd-pleaser and cater to their female clientele. The coffee is soft-bodied, so it is a great choice for a first-time coffee drinker. It is smooth and is excellent for any time of the day.

If you love your espressos, you may find it too citrusy, though. That said, lovers of Nespresso Indonesia will enjoy the Ethiopian flavor too. You can pair it with savoury and spicy foods and fruity breakfast dishes.

Pros of the Ethiopia:

This coffee brings a winey, aromatic flavor, perfect for social gatherings and parties in your home.

Cons of the Ethiopia:

The coffee is too citrusy for the morning for us, but if you love citrus, you will love this coffee.

Beverage Options

Ethiopia is designed to be exreacted as both an espresso and lungo (30 – 60 seconds) shot. It’s full body and intense flavor means this shot is absolutly packed with flavor. We recommend the Ethiopia is enjoyed in the following beverages:

The Green Pods Coffee Pod Beverage Options 1

Magic

A double ristretto with a splash of milk. Use 2 Ethiopia capsules to pull a double ristretto (~40ml) into a latte glass. Fill to 3/4 with foamed milk to create a short latte.

The Green Pods Coffee Pod Beverage Options 1

Flat White

Extract an espresso shot from your Ethiopia capsule. Froth a half cup of milk but stop early to minimise the amount of milk foam. Swirl to texture then pour slowly into the espresso. Bonus: learn to make some latte art for your Nespresso here

Dash of Milk

Draw a lungo pour and simply top with a ‘dash of milk’ (around 20-30ml).

Machiato

Extract an espresso shot from your Espresso capsule. Froth a small amount of milk and pour very slowly against the rim of the cup. Finish by spooning a small amount of froth to the centre of the espresso to ‘mark’ the crema.

Food Pairings

We’d reccommend something sweet to balance out the bitterness and bold flavours of Ristretto Decaffeinato. This is a great morning tea coffee, so grab a bikkie or pastry and enjoy.

SUSTAINABILITY

Are they recyclable?

Yes! All Nespresso pods are recyclable through the Nespresso recycling program.

What are the capsules made from?

Nespresso pods are made a specific aluminium alloy known as 8081. They are then coated with a thin film of plastic and an epoxy varnish to stop the metal from oxidising.

Recycling Nespresso pods

We’re actually quite impressed by the lengths Nespresso has gone to implement its recycling program on a global scale. In most countries, Nespresso offers dedicated recycling bags, which you can return full of your used pods to drop-off points at Nespresso stores, post shops, supermarkets, and even florists.

To date, Nespresso has become one of few brands to demonstrate its commitment to environmental concerns. While most major manufacturers continue to produce disposable plastic coffee capsules, the latest Nespresso capsules are made from 100% recyclable metal.

Accessing Nespresso’s recycling locations worldwide

Nespresso has put in place a recycling programme for its aluminium Nespresso and Vertuoline capsules in 44 countries.

Out of these 44 countries enrolled in the program, consumers can dispose of the capsules in their recycling bins in 6 of them. In 15 countries they can ship them off back to Nespresso through the postal system for free. For the 23 other countries, there are 122,287 collection points worldwide where you can drop off the used capsules.
