7 Reasons Your Krups Coffee Grinder Isn’t Working (And How To Fix It)

If your Krups coffee grinder is not grinding, it could be one of the following reasons.

  • The machine not getting power
  • tripped thermal cut-out
  • The motor is faulty.
  • The blades have become dull and need replacing.
  • There might be a problem with the thermal cut-out.
  • Your appliance isn’t receiving power.

1. No power to the machine

Ensure you’ve plugged the switch securely into the outlet. If it’s securely plugged in but it doesn’t grind, test other appliances at the same outlet to see if they work. If the other appliances work, there might be a problem with your device. Contact your nearest Krups service center.

If all the appliances don’t switch on, call an electrician to fix your outlet.

2. Check the thermal cut-out

Maybe the thermal cutout has cut the power to the heating element. This often happens when your device has overheated. Let your appliance cool down for about 5 minutes before you grind again.

3. The motor is faulty

Signs of a faulty motor include strange noises when grinding or the grinding stops altogether. This means you need to replace the motor. Here’s how to replace the motor for your blade grinder.

You’ll need:

  • Spudger
  • Soldering workstation

Instructions:

  1. Push the spudger between the flat side of the clips (found in the rectangular slots).
  2. Loosen each clip by pressing them inward with the spudger.
  3. Do the same for all clips until loose. Once loosened, remove the bottom.
  4. Gently release the trigger button from the base plate and tension clips.
  5. Remove the white trigger.
  6. Desolder contact points between the trigger button and the red wire.
  7. Desolder the remaining contact points from the plug cord.
  8. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws holding the motor in place.
  9. Reassemble the motor by following the above steps in reverse.

4. Machine shuddering but not grinding

If you’re using a blade grinder, the shuddering could be from a faulty blade. Check to see if the blade isn’t dull or bent. If so, it’s best to replace it.

If it’s not the blades, it could be the motor (also applicable for the burr grinder) that’s faulty. Before you replace the motor, give it time to cool for about 5 minutes, then grind again. If it’s not working, it’s best to replace the motor.

5. Motor spins but blade does not move

When your grinder is on, the screw rotates with the blade and loosens in the process. To push it back in place, take a flathead screwdriver and gently tighten the screw. Plug the cord into the outlet and turn on the machine.

6. Grinding too coarsely

If your device grinds too coarsely, it could be you added a lot of coffee beans. Reduce the number of beans and grind again. It’s also possible that the blades are dull. It’s best to replace the blades. You can find the replacement parts on Krups’s website.

Also, it can mean the motor is faulty. If you hear the motor running but the blades grind poorly, it’s best to replace the motor.

7. Grinds too slowly

The reason why both the blade and burr models might be grinding too slowly is because of overused grinding parts. It could also mean your grinder is clogged. First, here’s how to unclog your coffee grinder.

How to unclog burr grinder

  1. Press and hold down the “UNLOCK” button at the base of the motor.
  2. Unlock the burr by turning the burr anti-clockwise. Lift it by the handles.
  3. Using a cleaning brush, clean off any residues and grounds on the burr.
  4. Turn the device upside down and shake off any grounds.
  5. Remove the collection jar and clean the outlet with a brush.

How to unclog blade grinder

  1. Turn off the machine and unplug it from the outlet.
  2. Clean the inside with a clean soft brush.
  3. Take a damp kitchen towel and carefully wipe it all around the blade and under the blades, ensuring you don’t cut yourself.

NOTE: You can also use Grindz cleaning tablets to unclog your grinders. Using the tablets doesn’t require you to dismantle the device.

If unclogging doesn’t work, it’s best to replace the blades or burrs.
